My husband is in a hotel room using a wireless connection to the internet.
When he goes to shut down his computer he gets the window's warning "other
people are logged on to this computer and they could lose data if he
continues. Do you still want to shut down?"
Can anyone tell me if this means someone has hacked into his computer or
not? And if not, why is this message appearing?

Thanks so much for any help offered.

Does the machine have multiple user accounts? Is one of them still logged
in? If so that's normal, the easiest way to check would be to log off or
switch user and look on the log on screen to see if the other users are
still logged on.

You can also tell if someone is remotely connected to a computer by doing this:
1. Open Administrative Tools
2. Open Computer Management
3. Expand "Shared Folders"
4. Click on "Sessions"

It will list any remote connections in the right-hand pane.

Is it possible that your husband selected "Home" or "Work" when the dialog
popped up to ask him to classify the network he was on? If so, he would have
opened the computer wide on the hotel network.

I get the same message on my home notebook, and don't what to do about it.
Has any one found a solution?
