Other personal firewalls besides Norton?

Have you tried "zonealarm" yet?
It's free and its quite good.
It doesn't slow down your computer.

I have a win2000 laptop and I have Norton Personal Firewall installed.
Unfortunately, it's giving me more problems than what I really want. I'm
having so much trouble accessing the Internet with IE6 that I'm using an old
version of Opera in the meantime. It also disables many of win Explorer
functionality and makes my PC really slow (eg. everything takes longer to
load).
Unfortunately, I need a personal firewall because I've been having unusual
strong activity with my modem even when I'm not browsing. I had uninstalled
Norton Firewall but had to reinstall it.
Do you know of any other other firewalls out there besides Norton?

Thanks.

Yes, ZoneAlarm "Standard" is quite good.
The "Professional" version (which costs money) is better.
And yes, it does slow down the computer by about 20%.

You could also use Trend Internet Security. It is integrated
with a virus scanner, and is reasonably priced.

No sure about "ZoneAlarm". Had it (free one) for a while, it gave me too
much trouble. Often times I couldn't access the net. Switched to Norton
Internet Security, and no problem so far.

Zone Alarm Pro has been my personal use choice for years, and Kerio is
one I've used at work. The free-use Zone Alarm is also good if you
don't need the Pro features.
