First, a big thanks to you guys who help out those of us
who are confused.

Secondly, are there other newsgroups related to Internet
Explorer or other Microsoft programs? I am trying to
figure out if I can configure IE to kill pop-ups... I'm
absolutely tired of them.

Thanks,
David

Hi, David,

Yes, there are hundreds of newsgroups for Microsoft programs, but most
of them aren't hosted through the Microsoft Communities web interface.

You can use a newsreader such as Outlook Express or Forte Free Agent
to read them on the server msnews.microsoft.com or on your local ISP's
server if one is offered. For help with that, see
http://www.mvps.org/word/FindHelp/WhichNewgrp.htm.

Or you can use your browser to see all the newsgroups through the
Google Groups site, http://groups.google.com. For example, the IE
newsgroup is at
http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=...group=microsoft.public.internet.explorer.ieak.

Google is also the source of the excellent -- and free -- Google
Toolbar, which includes a popup blocker along with other useful
features. Get it from http://toolbar.google.com.

To eliminate popups in IE, I use Google Toolbar. It has good features
plus popup elimination.

That being said, I use Mozilla most of the time because by default it
kills popups without add-ins, it's inherently more secure (doesn't have
the spoof bug which has come to light this week), and it's tabbed
browsing is a real benefit.
