we have a workgroup with machines, 6 running 2000, one on 98 one on
xp and two with 2000 server
the problem is that on one machine running 2000, i am unable to see
the other machines in the network neighbourhood, i am unable to see
the machine from the other machines too. i can see the workgroup in
the network neighbourhood, but nothing inside. but we are able to
access mail from a server and able to ping to and from the system to
any other system on the network

the same settings for the network config are on the other systems and
they all work

Got File- and printersharing loaded on the troubled machine? Make sure that
the workgroupname is the same and that it is using a valid username to login
into the server?
Compare the ipconfig/all from the troubled one with a machine that is
working.

thanks for replying,
the workgroup name is the same. but why should i login to the server i
am on w workgroup and am using the administrator on the troubled
machine. actually i dont understand by " CHECK is using a valid
username to login into the server?"

i am really new to this and dont get most of the stuf u guys discuss
so can u please explain in common language.

thanks for replying
ramesh
(ps: we have everything setup and working except this and everything
else seems to be working, this is really becoming as this machine is
inside a room and u need to actually jump over things to get to
another machine to print things :) )

In your first post you were talking about a W2000-server. Is that one a real
W2000-server OS or is it a W2000-pro OS?
Can you give us a ipconfig/all from a working machine and one from the
troubled one?
Open a commandprompt and type it in. If you add ">ip.txt" (without the
quotes) you'll be able to copy and paste in the message.

thanks for replying
