Deer in the Headlights

(sorry for the report - i'm desperate for a solution)

Howdy,

I try to play a .wmv file from the web, and Windows XP (w/ SP2 installed)
is trying to force me to install Windows Media Player 9.

Anyone have a workaround for this?

TIA,

Bubba

set up your file association to the program you want to run the *.wmv. if
you can't figure out how to do that, there are a number of free utilities
that will help you set up a file association.

Google for "association manager" -- it's really good, I've been using
it for a long time.

Yes, the part of the post I stupidly neglected to mention - I AM running
Media Player Classic and normally any clicked .wmv file invokes MPC from a
web link.

Now, after SP2 install, the Windows Media 9 install dialog box comes up
whenever I click a .wmv link.

VERY frustrating...
