I've been seeing several references in the past couple of weeks to "World
Cup."

Can anybody tell me what the heck that's all about? I think it has something
to do with the Metric system.

FIFA World Cup football, which Italy won (yesterday was the final match)
against the mighty France.

Pay no heed, "World Cup" is just some game from France that either the
Chinese or Koreans have adopted it as their national sport. It's like
baseball, only instead of a bat you kick the ball with your foot. You will
notice the Italians in your area getting excited about it. That's because
the winning team sometimes hands out pizza which means a lot of business for
Italians.

It can have metric connections, in that if you headbutt someone, or stand
on someone in an inappropriate position, you switch from an 11-system to a
10-system

But "pizza" isn't Italian either! :-)

I think what he meant to say is that it belongs to Italy.

Like Libya and Albania.

Remember, there weren't any computer viruses
when Mussolini was running things.

Yes, but Italians don't usually invent anything themselves. Even their
ancestors, the Romans borrowed all their architecture and alphabet from
either the Africans and English - or maybe the Greeks - it doesn't matter -
and their "Republic " they probably they borrowed from the Americans
because America is a Republic and Americans like pizza and the Romans
probably wanted to get in good with the Americans - but all's important is
that the Italians think the World Cup means business for their Pizzarias.

Guess as long as it makes them happy, what the hey! :-)

Thank you. I figured it had something to do with sports, but the only sport
reference of which I'm aware referencing "cup" involves a fiberglass shield
for one's naughty bits.

So you kick the ball (presumably protected by the 'cup') and the last one
left standing wins? That's similar to hockey, right?

The final game was between France and Italy. What does German have to do
with it?

Aside from that, who gives a rip anyway?

What does German have to do with it?

Because Germany hosted the world cup and they were the favorites? BTW,
Germany got the 3rd place anyway, beating Portugal.
