Why are there so many questions posted here that have nothing to do with
..NET? It seems that this happened over night (a while ago).

Ask the people who posted them!

LOL! Brilliant suggestion!

But seriously - how are these people even *finding* these news groups? I
mean like the guy who posted the Zune question earlier today. IIRC, I've
seen questions about printer cartridge issues.

The odds of these folks "stumbling" across this NG would be astronimically
small (i.e. impossible given the volume and nature of these OT questions). I
doubt most of these people even know what a news group even is... much less
know how to hook into one. Thus my curiosity.

I believe a lot of it has to do with the MS Forums web interface and the way
users select groups. I understand the drop down list provided tempts the
poster to just select the first group with "general" in the name, rather
than scrolling down to appropriate groups for Windows questions (seems to be
the most commonly misdirected class of questions).
These web posters appear to know nothing about Usenet or newsgroups.
I would assume the web interface does nothing to educate.

Could be because some pretty smart computer users hang out here so they get
real answers :o)
