Do you remember where you were when you heard about President Kennedy
being assassinated?

All I can remember is being in front of the TV during the funeral and
the constant sounding of the drums during the procession. I was only a
few years old then.

I can specifically remember sitting in a corner pondering future
incidents when computers would be a household necessity, usenet would
be in full swing and clueless mullets would still post messages of no
value in groups not pertaining to the subject matter.

I should have saved up to buy Microsoft stock.

All I can remember is being in front of the TV during the funeral and
the constant sounding of the drums during the procession. I was only a
few years old then.

And still no one cares.

I was ill that day and at home. I was 13. My mother phoned from work to
check on me and told me the news she had just heard; President Kennedy was
shot and was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, where he had
just received his Last Rites. I don't remember truly feeling sad then. Four
and one-half years later, on June 5th, 1968, I got to experience profound
sadness, in spades. I often wonder what life would have been like for
America, had Robert Kennedy's life not been taken at just that moment in
time.

The Kennedy's would have taken over the world instead of Bush?

I was a high-school sophomore in band practice at the time of the
announcements, first that he had been shot and then that he died. My first
thought: "Boy, someone is going to be in big trouble."

I was an electrical engineering student at Ole Miss, where Kennedy had
ordered troops to facilitate the enrollment of James Meredith the
previous year, and needless to say, there were some misgivings amongst
the student body for that. At that time, myself and a couple friends had
been doing 2-way radio work on the side, and had a job in Batesville, so
we were busy preparing for that and not listening to the news. As we
were leaving campus, we noticed a crowd had gathered around a
half-masted (USA) flag in the center of campus, then hauled it down and
ran the Stars and Bars to the top amid cheers and Rebel yells. We
inquired if this was a pep rally for some upcoming game and were only
then informed that Kennedy had been shot.

How times change.
