EVIL EVIL Spyware in that stupid Macromedia plugin...
?! Are you unduly paranoid, ignorant or both?

Maybe he just doesn't like highly annoying ads that flash and blink so often
they make trying to view a site more trouble than it's worth. Or maybe he's
on dialup and hates waiting for all the little applets to load every time he
views a page.

In insinuating ignorance on the posters behalf, you have clearly
demonstrated your own.

Sorry, I use Firefox, never see any ads. Macromedia is not spyware
though, if you can't manage you browser to avoid getting spyware it's no
one's fault but their own.

REALLY?.. that sucks .. what you find?

ps.. sorry if it had some I didn't know.

As far as I know, it checks back to a MM site regulalry to see if you have the latest version of the
plugin. apps looking for connections between your computer and a list of IPs would catch it (such as
peer guardian, which blocks the Macromedia domains), which would raise suspicions to those not
expecting it.

Not as ignorant as you, obviously.

The plugin comes bundles with the Yahoo! search bar.

Also, if it occasionally checks for updates it also qualifies as spyware as
far as I'm concerned. It should only access the net when I ask it to. NEVER
update my software without my permission.

Could you imagine if Win XP SP2 had just quietly happened without anyone
knowing?

Yes, there is an 'option' to install the Yahoo search bar but you dont have
to (and I'd advise not to - the Google toolbar is better). Your firewall
blocks access to the web unless you specifically give one of your programs
access. Most AV software packages now prevent unauthorised scripting. No
probs. Shaun
