OT- strange HP file

This is a puzzle. It is hardware-related, I believe, hope for some
advice here.

In the past, I saved a file "hpdla31.exe". I just ran it, it wants to
install HP DLA, but says there is a conflict with EasyCD Creator 4 on my
harddrive, do I want to uninstall it. I exited, went to Google, found
where someone is using this file to install a DVD drive.

I don't plan to install a DVD drive ever in my machine. Can't imagine
saving a file with that purpose. I do have an old HP LaserJet printer,
but this file does not seem to be related. I do use HP Record Now to
write to a CD, but the install file is different.

Anyone with HP hardware that has a clue on this?

DLA (Direct Letter Access) is a packet writing program that comes with
RecordNow and which will conflict with DirectCD which is also a packet
writing program installed along with EZCD.

Why have EZCD if you use RecordNow?

I'll have to look up some information on packet writing as contrasted to
my normally saving data files to a CD.

I use RecordNow, but would like to use Sony CD Extreme 2000 w/update,
which I also have. I kept getting a write error message when I used to
run it.

Does the Sony program not work with an old HP 8200 CD drive?

If you drag and drop to the drive icon, you are writing with packets.

There is no reason you can'r have both. What you can't have are two packet
writing programs. Well, you can but only one can be active at once and it
isn't always easy to totally disable one to use another. Two are redundant
anyway. For that matter, many consider one to be one too many.

Wait a minute. I thought you said you were using RecordNow and EZCD.
RecordNow and CDExtreme are the same program...makes absolutely no sense to
have both.

I have no idea. They both are the same Prassi program, check there or at
Veritas.

Thanks for the info.
I originally tried Sony, kept getting write errors in the middle of
writing to the disk. Then I tried EZCreator 4 that I had from before, it
wrote to my Imation disks OK, but I kept reading bad things about EZ. So
I then loaded RecordNow, it works fine, been using it. IIRC, the GUI of
Sony seemed to offer more possibilities. And after all the good reports
on ACF, I never understood my bad results.

RecordNow and Sony are totally alike?? RecordNow has such a basic
interface, few options.

Interface varies a bit, simple is good. Why complicate unnecessarily?

I haven't used Extreme in a while but IIRC it's interface is very little
different and the options are the same for both...audio, data, mixed, video,
image, copy...exact same set of recording and file system types. What other
option do you want?
