hey group,
Are the Labway PCI cards with Yamaha chip any good?
Well, for one thing they're a bit old. So if "any good" includes modern
D/A and A/D converters, look elsewhere. The chips seem to have hardware
wavetable MIDI though, so if you need that... Otherwise I'd look at the
Chaintech AV-710 (high quality output on channels 7/8, just use audio
cables that are as short as possible and good quality 'cuz the DAC has
to drive the output all on its own and is not designed for that) or SB
Live! 24-Bit (can drive 'phones, but isn't quite as good-sounding as the
AV-710). Personally I'd invest a bit more though, into something like a
Terratec Aureon 5.1 Sky or M-Audio Revolution 5.1 (the Revo should be
better); there are also a few older Envy24 based cards to be found on
the used market which can be fairly nice.
3 years ago the XWave 6000 2k/XP drivers only worked in plain stereo, so
apparently there must have been drivers. Labway no longer exists it
seems.
