Hi guys,

I have a 2 windows xp professional and one windows 98. xpserver, xpclient
and 98 client. Both xp are formated as NTFS.

The problem is now that I can't access the shared drives from xpclient and
98client. Everything else is okay. Internet sharing
is working fine. I can access 98client from xpserver but even not xpclient.

In the drives both options of "share it on the network" and "allow network
users to change my files" are set. I don't have any
firewall in this stage

What else can go wrong????

Try a Windows XP newsgroup.

In a mixed Win98 / XP environment, try keeping names (Computer, Shares etc)
to 8.3 characters or less to avoid problems.

Thanks guys,

I already mentioned "OT" and "if you can help" ... obviously you guys
couldn't ;-)... so still i appreciated ...

Thanks James,

Names are okay - OurNetwork + I have more problem with XP->xp network rather
than the XP->98.

I'll bet you can find a more appropriate newsgroup to post your
questions to here:

http://support.microsoft.com/newsgroups/default.aspx

I'd also bet that some MVP can help you.

OurNetwork is more than 8 characters but probably not the problem if it's XP
to XP. Have you checked the other obvious items, all firewalls (incl XP
firewall) disabled on internal network, workgroup name the same on all PCs,
fixed IPs with same subnetmask on all PCs or DHCP enabled, same protocol for
file&printer sharing on all PCs, Can the XP PCs ping each other? Remove
network protocols not needed. Remember that it can take up to 10 minutes
on a network for a PC to be 'seen' due to the way the network software works
in the background.

James,

I have no firewall in this stage, what do you mean by XP firewall?

All same group name, same protocol with file and printer sharing. I didn't
know it takes
that long to see each PC of the network???

XP has a built in firewall, Start / Control Panel / Network Connections.
Right click on the appropriate connection & select the advanced tab.
Disable it to get you started.

There is a process the networking software goes through to discover each PC
and put one 'in charge' so wait at least a few minutes.

Did you try pinging? Did you check IP addresses (are they fixed or DHCP?).
Make sure you are using simple file sharing:

Try these:
