I have an old PC on which there is version 5.13 of Mcafee Viruscan.
Unfortunately, the program has corrupted after an update.

I don't have the original media for the app, as it all came pre-
installed on this old PC.

Can anyone suggest where i might obtain a version 5 of said program?
Abandon-ware maybe?

Even if you can find Ver 5, it won't do you much good. McAfee stopped
providing updates for Ver 5 some time ago. It probably won't be too long
before they stop providing updates for Ver 6, as well.

You may want to stop by alt.comp.freeware and ask for recommendations for
free anti-virus software, if you're interested in such software. I
understand from the folks "in the know" over there that there are some good
anti-virus software programs available. Unfortunately, I bought/installed
McAfee Ver 8 before I knew that.

That software is too old.

Time to upgrade.

The file you want is vs0513ai.exe and subsequest update vs0515ai.exe and
vs0521ai.exe all are 14-16mb.

I have all them but cannot pass them on. You can search for them but you are
taking the chance of picking up a virused file. I would try 1 or more of the
suggestions above or buy vs9 when it come out this month.
Peace

Not my decision ... have given the same advice myself ... whether the
owner of said equipment takes it is up to them.

Look, I have a copy of Mcafee Office, if you want it (it is basicly a
crap Norton Systemworks done around 2001, and only works on Windows
98/me), then let me know. It contains Virusscan 5. What use it will
be, I don't know. It was probably the update that killed it, as the
update stopped supporting v5.

Andrew.

The problem has been 'resolved', but thanks.
The owner of the PC opted for the free edition of AVG ......

*sigh*

Dam! Was really hoping to get rid of that!

Never mind, collecting dust along with OS/2 Warp 3 and a load of other
books/disks, probably most of which are dead by now as they are thick
with dust.

Andrew.
