Windolene - the greenish spray - acts as a solvent for dye based inks in
particular. Equally a mild household ammonia will free up the dye and
dissolve it. Possibly with plenty of tissue then a dry one to soak it up -
with no rubbing on carpet fibres... maybe

For cotton, another solution: one tablespoon of bleach in 5 liters of water
(1 gallon). Let the cotton clothing stay for about 3-4 days. Change the
water every day.

Change the water every day.

That would work if the clothes in question were already white - I wouldn't
recommend that solution (in both senses of the word) for use on coloureds.
Or you might find that your favourite top has a nice white mark on it!

Please remember that if you use a US gallon you will be short changed!

The suggested solution is very "light", 2gr in 5 liters means 0.04% (or 4
parts per 10,000 parts). I have done the method many times for all kind of
cloths [even to colorfull needlework].

For carpet, I've found that the best thing is to do nothing. Any attempts at
cleaning with ammonia or other solvents just spread the dye around more,
making a larger spot. Leaving it alone, it will eventually dry and fade/wear
off.
