Apologies for the OT post but maybe someones come accross this. I have

destroyed the cross head in the scre so its now just go a big hole.

any ideas how to get it out.

One way is to carefully cut a groove in the head so that a standard
screwdriver will fit in. The problem is that you will probably get
metal shavings all over. Another approach is to use vise grip pliers if
you can get them in close enough to get a good grip on the screw.

You don't want metal slivers inside the computer because
they could short out the mobo or get inside any unsealed
drive.

Get JBWeld or just super glue and use it to glue a new,
degreased driver bit in the degreased screw head. Wait 24
hours and use a driver handle on the bit. You can buy the
bits at any hardware, home supply or auto store (or Sears).
After the glue dries, put a small drop of WD-40 (use a
needle) on the screw so it gets under the head and maybe
even on the threads.

Then when you replace the drive, use new screws and buy some
quality tools and keep they properly sharp, old rounded
drivers (particularly the Phillips and Reed-Prince must have
square and sharp points.

Snug the new screws, but don't over tighten them.
