Anyone have any cool pranks that I can play on a friend's computer. We
often send NET SEND messages but that way we know who is sending them.
It would be fun to do a few gags on the "unsuspecting" friend.
PS - We are all on the same network at home

With a bit of timing and if you use W2K or XP:
(Some might just work on other windows versions as well)

1)Schedule (with the at command) a ned send. Make sure you are with your
friend when the scheduler does its work. How soon can he figuer it out

2) Capture (Print screen) an strange error message, and put it as wallpaper
on his PC. how many times will he click befor he figures it out. If he has
already a background image. Try to get a copy, edit it with the error
message in front and save it. He will never susspect...

3)If you have an administrator passwords: fool around with icons on the
desktop by opeing the C$ share.

4) Remote shutdown timer (one whitch blocks the user from canceling) Set it
on a 59 minute countdowns. He will love you!!!

5 There are a lot of little prank programs out there. From turning your
scren upsite down to a virus-like screensaver. They vary much in fun, some
are quite ok, others are plainly anoying. But my ex collegue and I always
admired pranks without using aditional software to use (Exept for the
resource kit, we both had this installed and agreed these utilities ware ín
game :-) )

6) Ok, according to my own standards it is off limit, but just think about
the fun you have using this:
http://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/tools/msklc.mspx. Just start by switchin
the 'E'with an ohter letter

But also be sure you can repair any damage you have done, or the friendship
will be damaged even more. An be prepared he will get even with you. Some
time, someplace, somehow...

Success!

Yeah - both on XP Pro.

I have heard of that one where you make a screenprint of (his) desktop
and then hide icons and use the background you just created - he clicks
and *nothing* happens (tee hee!)
3)If you have an administrator passwords: fool around with icons on
the desktop by opeing the C$ share.

More info on that please - never heard of that one...?

Do you have any links you recommend?

<grin!> I once did this *years* ago when we remapped WordPerfect 5.1
(remember?) keyboard so that whenever the person pressed "q" it would
close the program! LOL!

O yes - one friend already got me back (and all I did was change desktop
icons!) by installing a keylogger on his PC so when I used his PC he got
my passwords and went into Yahoo/Hotmail and changed settings <grr!>

Thanks

Oh man, I have what you need. I've got a ton of laughs out of this one!

It's a small program that says it's going to delete the Windows folder, and
asks "Yes" or "No". Well, the mouse cursor runs away from "No" and goes to
"Yes". It starts "deleting" all files, and "re-boots" to a black screen. It
finally says "Missing Operating system". It runs for only 30-40 seconds,
but will make you sweat bullets if you don't suspect a joke!

Of course it's really harmless, and doesn't really re-boot at all. Runs on
all Windows.

If anyone wants it let me know and I'll e-mail it to you.

Bob

Ah... A nice os to play with :-)

Every windows NT Based system (NT3.15, NT4, W2K, and XP - in all flavors
like home, pro,and server) create some hidden shares by default. THese
shares can only be accessed if you are:
1) belonging to the domain administrator group of the LAN - But I guess you
dont have a domain but a workgroup...
2) belong to the administrator group of the target computer.
Hidden shares are just like normal shares but ending in a $ sign. This sign
makes them invisible for the Windows network browser. The shares asr called
<DriveLetter>$ but are only created for permanet drives, not for CD Players
usb drives or other media.

you can acces them by goin to the start menu --> run and then type
\\Computername\<driveletter>$ you will be asked to supply a name and
password. As said you needt to have an administrator name or password, or
you won't get in.

If you get everything richt, a window will apear with the root of the
requested drive. Since the C: drive is most often used for windows and the
documents and settings directory, you can play with this. Add a bunch of
icons to the desktop (this is a folder somewhere in documents and settings)

Now a big bummer: You can turn the hidden shares off. This means no acces at
all for you. For this, you should take a look in the user & groups
management console
<sarcasm>O yes! I will be his favourite friend eh!</sarcasm>

My college returned the favor by setting the timer to 1 second, and to force
close all open applications... Had to type 2 letters alover again :-)

Do you have any links you recommend?

It is more than a year ago i used them, but nonags http://www.nonags.com/
has some in the Toys section.

<grin!> I once did this *years* ago when we remapped WordPerfect 5.1
(remember?) keyboard so that whenever the person pressed "q" it would
close the program! LOL!

If your collegue is any good at typing, the nicest thing to do is just to
swing the A/E/I/O/U around. It wil drive him crazy, I'm sure
O yes - one friend already got me back (and all I did was change desktop
icons!) by installing a keylogger on his PC so when I used his PC he got
my passwords and went into Yahoo/Hotmail and changed settings <grr!>

well some revances I did or got:

- the 'He every body, somebody is watching porno over here' application put
in the start=up part of the registy. ANd I had to explain to my boss. He
realy got me that time :-)

- Gotten into his email account and changed password to something nasty

- Intalling the thai language pack on windows 2000 - *AND* use it - that was
a tricky one to get rid of :-)

- add a little app playing an anoying little wave file by every letter you
typed

- switching mouse directions with the logitag mouse control panel

- changed the subnetmask to 255.255.255.255

- added the start-up page of his default browser to the hostfile with ip
adress 127.0.0.1 (local ip number) Unfortunately, he did not have any
webserver running

- Exchanged the icons of 'My Computer' and 'Network'

But the real trick is to be origional.

Nah.. If you play by the rules, life isn't fun!
Kick against the establishment, but be respectful to the individual.
Take you work serious, but not your life.
Now screw the homework and make the biggest mess of your life!
