There is currently a major power outage in North America. New York City,
Cleveland, Detroit, Toronto, Ottawa, other cities affected.

My daughter's hamster died a few years ago; we buried him in a remote
Welsh churchyard under a dandelion.

Gee, thanks for caring, Terry. I wonder how many deaths will be attributed
to this outage before power is restored? Maybe we should bury them all under
dandelions in tribute to your highly philosophical statement.

Duh.

There is currently a shortage of cash in my pocket, Unable to go out and get
pissed this weekend.

I guess folks are only allowed to post off topic if they are a member of
the "small minded hypocritical elitest **** club". Otherwise you get
****ed with by the aforementioned club members. Even if your off topic
post is a major situation effecting millions of peoples lives. But hey,
when you are a member of the club you get to post off topic about stupid
shit and all the club members join right in thinking it is the funnest
post of the day. I just love selective persecution.

Dude, you have serious issues. It is sad to have to tell you this, but
real life (something you obviously don't have) is way more important
than this petty ass little newsgroup.

Anytime something of this nature happens in my country I will make an
announcement. You don't like it....tough shit. They made lill-files for
a reason. Use it.

The price of beans was reduced recently, and Alistair Campbell might
have to go.

I have no lill-file.

Oh dear you are so upset, I doubt you know what is going on in 'real life'
out side of the US.
Make all the announcements you want but don't get upset when you get a reply
you don't like.
You need to get a life or experience what the real world is like.

Well, if you were my neighbor and I knew you, I'd give you a few
dollars (pounds) for it.

I agree, this is not the place to post emergency announcements.

You, sir, are an idiot. Here: why don't you experience my killfile.

Death, whether due to power cuts or to any other reason is hardly on

Substantially fewer Americans will die in a power cut than have been
killed by Americans in Iraq or any of the other countries where
America asserts its 'world policeman' role.

America was not the only country effected, and it was the _people_, not
the _government_, have a little compassion.
You want me to start a fatuous OT thread about dead Iraqis?
No? Thought not.

Too late.
There is possibly a group where the O/P's post would be on topic. He
should post to it.
Usenet only really works when it is on topic to some sort of extent. I
don't post here about politics, sex, religion, warez, power cuts...
and am not remotely interested in those who do. Or their apologists.

It doesn't help, just as the big fat OT in the subject line didn't help
you to ignore it. If you just added a simple filter, Usenet would be on
topic for you. Learn to use the tools your provided with.

Not being able to separate the actions of a government from the actions
of its people shows your complete ignorance of Life, The Internet and
Everything.

There's "real life" outside of the U.S.?

Balderdash. The guy posted some potentially important info. There's
no need for anyone to bust his balls about it. He put "O.T." in the
subject, so it could easily have been filtered if one is that bothered
by the occasional OT post.

Ya, so off to bed at 11p.m. only to get up at 2a.m. to pee, see vcr
flashing, check e-mail and acf - I know I have a problem....

Yup - a "dimestore bladder" problem

So you noticed. A lot of people here are starting to realize this and
are starting to object. Hang in here.

DC and I certainly would have sent a floral arrangement had we known
about the poor little fella.
Having survived this power problem it is interesting to note that New
York's mayor is blaming Canadian swine for the outage while Toronto's
mayor Mel Lastman is telling his citizens that they are the best in the
world. My wife, on the other hand is blaming me and my computer fetish
and was unable to do her on-line banking and had to resort to going out
to the truck to listen to the news.
Vic Dura, no doubt, will be blaming John's Faq having been the root of
the problem as he is apt to do regularly, while John C. will be fingering
all those power staions running windows on their computer system.
Quoted that Ohio is the most responsible for this outage, its senator may
or may not have been overheard to say, "We think it all started on a
sheep farm near the shores of Lake Ontario - you know what sheep farmers
are like!"
Word is filtering in from down under that Blinky's X-face was
responsible, but experts here think that very unlikely. Blinky himself
was driving up and down the red light district of Hollywood looking for
Arnold Swartz supporters so he could run them over, so you know he was
conserving electricity at the time.
Susan Bugher, no doubt, was ftp'ing a new file to the Pricelessware page
so that could have caused this hiccup, but we'll never know for sure as
her server has a tight privacy policy.
Boomer, I am told, was just typing 'go to alt.24hours' when this
happened.
I am inclined to believe that reports of terrorism having nothing to do
with this are wrong. In fact, I'll lay odds it was some damn Neufy swine,
Frog swine or Nazi sonofabi**h that pulled the switch. Nevertheless, I
strongly urge posters here to continue boiling their drinking water until
George W. makes an official statement from Camp David.
End of public service announcement (sorry Therese)
:)

I doubt that would interest him. How can one possibly compare
something as trivial as the death of Arabs with something as
important as an American power cut ?

Maybe discussing how the Americans have "liberated" the Iraqi
oilfields for themselves would be more "interesting" ?

Or maybe we could discuss why it is okay for Jewish fanatics to have
weapons of mass destruction but it isn't okay for Arab fanatics to
have weapons of mass destruction ?

I believe I have refered to it before as cronyism. It wasn't liked that
time either.

Yes, cronyism is a good word to describe it.

IMO, there no reason for the rest of us to accept it in an unmoderated
NG. That not what UseNet alt. groups are about.
