Pennsylvania State U. Advises Computer Users on Its Network Not to
Use Microsoft Browser

http://chronicle.com/free/2004/12/2004121001n.htm

They have an approximate enrollment of 80,000 - this is the first USA
major university to do this...probably more will follow.
I use OE, but no java, no scripts and nothing stupid like visiting THOSE
sites.
Additionally, I run spybot and Ad-Aware and use the fed govt anti-virus
prog.
Since Win95, etc I've exprienced no problems with it. I used Mozilla for
awhile
but then it quit and I went back to OE and haven't changed since. Also, in
another
article on the header topic, they listed Mozilla as an alternative browser,
but in this
article they didn't. Interesting!

No problems, except with your line lengths, you mean? :-)

I believe they are talking about their students, of which many are
inexperienced Internet users.

I'm amazed that you think many U.S. university students might be
inexperienced internet users.

But I agree with you that inexperienced users should not use the
Microsoft browser. ;)

Which raises the question, why would anyone with computer
experience ever want to use Internet Explorer?

They are experienced enough to find their way around and do their
assignments, but they are not experienced enough (or inclined) to practice
good computer hygiene. :)

I spend a good part of my time cleaning up after college students. They can
be a network administrator's worst nightmare. If I had my way, not only
wouldn't they be allowed to use IE, but they wouldn't be allowed to use any
computers that belong to the university. Let them mess up their own
computers.

Some people like a little spice in their life. A good virus every 4 or 5
years keeps the juices flowing.

Maybe because it always works?

I'm always reading about the problems you guys have with the rebel ones.
