Greetings, Access usenet groups -

Is it just me, or has the number of postings unrelated in any way to
Access to these newsgroups increased substantially in recent weeks? I'll
concede the point made by someone in another thread that *some*
newsgroups names could be confusing to novices...frex, perhaps they read
"microsoft.public.access.gettingstarted" as "getting started with public
access using microsoft" or whatever. But how anyone could think that a
newsgroup containing the phrase "tablesdbdesign" has anything to do with
OE, or Windows, or internet searching for an image of Uncle Sam or the
Girl Scout logo is absolutely beyond me. I'm beginning to wonder if the
group addresses have been posted or documented inappropriately.

I think it is just PEBKAC (Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Chair). At
least there hasn't been much "discord" in the NGs and they have been fairly
stable. It seems the number of posts has gone up so it would make sense that
some of these are OT.

I agree that there seems to have been a significant increase. Unfortunately,
I have no idea why. I thought the majority of these posts seemed to be
coming from the web-based interface, so perhaps that interface was confusing
people. But now that I've had time to have a good look at the web-based
interface, I have to say that it seems clear enough. When you expand the
Office node in the tree on the left, you see Access listed along with Excel,
FrontPage, InfoPath, etc. It's hard to see how anyone could select the
Access node without noticing the other nodes beneath it. And even if someone
hadn't heard of Access before, you'd think the context, in a list along with
Excel, Outlook, and Word, would be a pretty strong hint that Access must be
an application like the others in the list.

Oh well, I guess in comparison to some of the stuff that one encounters in
other forums, a few off-topic posts are not so bad.

The spammers and script-kiddies have succeeded in making it impossible for
me to use a real e-mail address in public newsgroups. E-mail replies to
this post will be deleted without being read. Any e-mail claiming to be
from brenreyn at indigo dot ie that is not digitally signed by me with a
GlobalSign digital certificate is a forgery and should be deleted without
being read. Follow-up questions should in general be posted to the
newsgroup, but if you have a good reason to send me e-mail, you'll find
a useable e-mail address at the URL above.
