Pretty esoteric for this crowd, I think--but an excellent article--lots of
good details about why the present behavior was chosen for SP2. It'd be
interesting to know what kinds of applications would make you need to make
this change--I'll bet that it is something very specific, and seen mostly in
large corporate networks. I sure wouldn't do this at home!
Then again, I'd guess this may be the cause of some of the DHCP, File
Sharing, and update time-out at startup issues we've seen in the Windows Live
OneCare forums. Mote that the problem can still exist even if the SP2
firewall is turned off, which it is in WLOC.
I still agree that I wouldn't recommend the average user try this without
guidance, but I bet this makes it into an update sooner rather than later,
especially if it affects the File Sharing for WLOC installations.
