ODD TOPIC

I just downloaded the IE7 Beta and found that it ( like many other recent
tools ) works ONLY on winXP

Can some one guide me to a resource specifying why Microsoft thinks that
Windows 2000 is so obsolete that any new tool that it publishes will ONLY
work on windows XP.

AFAIK there is no development tool yet that is exclusive to Windows XP which
means this is a forced requirement.

Sorry didnt know where to dump my agony :-)

IE 7 is not "any new tool". One cannot talk about a specific case and then
apply that situation to "any" situation, logically.

IE7 is not a development tool It is a web browser. It is also integrated
with the Windows Operating System. It is being developed for deployment with
Windows Vista, which is a huge leap forward in terms of OS infrastructure. I
imagine it was difficult enough just to get it to work with Windows XP.

Nobody is forcing you to do anything. One is forced to do something when one
has no choice. Your choices are many. You may choose not to beta test the
software. You may choose to upgrade to Windows XP. You may choose to wait
until Windows Vista comes out and upgrade to it. You may continue to use IE
6, and will not miss much. You may download and install FireFox, or any
other free web browser you choose. You may choose never to upgrade your OS
or computer ever again, and accept the fact that you will not be able to run
newer software on your old machine. In fact, it would seem that you are the
one who wants to do the forcing, that is, force Microsoft to make their
newest software run on 6-year-old Operating Systems.

Finally, Windows 2000 is a six year old Operating System. Byt the time
Windows Vista is released, Windows 2000 will be about 7 years old. In the
world of computers, that is ancient.
