OT Non-security update rolls out Tuesday

  • Thread starter Thread starter Engel
  • Start date Start date
This one is for Vista Ultimate and Enterprise users only, because those are
the versions of Vista that support Bitlocker.

This update requires a reboot, and is going out early so that Bitlocker
encrypted systems can be updated to Vista SP1 properly.

There will be several more pre-SP1 updates distributed in the future for
other editions of Vista--I believe those won't require reboots.

I just got 3. I don't have Vista or WD:

Windows XP Security Update for Windows XP (KB943485) Tuesday, January 08,
2008 Windows Update

Windows XP Security Update for Windows XP (KB941644) Tuesday, January 08,
2008 Windows Update

Windows XP Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - January 2008 (KB890830)
Tuesday, January 08, 2008 Windows Update

************************************************************

Did require reboot, but went smoothly. Have a good day all. :-)

Hi Robinb,

KB935509 release is a little different than past updates. It is a
prerequisite for installing SP1 and is applicable only for Windows Vista
Ultimate and Enterprise users, because it only affects versions of Windows
Vista supporting BitLocker Drive Encryption.

Source:

I'm running Home Premium, and that is offered too.

I D/L only the MSRT, the other 5 or 6 have to wait a few days to see what
happen with Guinea pigs :-)

Good luck

Oh My!!! 8-O
That doesn't look good.

I was kind of surprised when I saw you post what you were offered. I
thought you had a "Home" version but I figured I had misunderstood something
about the update itself.

The angles be watching you my man :-)

Tim

Hi Tim,

We remain at MS-DEFCON 2: Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an
immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it.

As usual, I urge you to hold off installing them until we know more about
any unintended side effects. (I also urge you to hold off installing the
December Black Tuesday patches, Office 2003 Service Pack 3, and Office 2007
Service Pack 1, for the time being.)

robinb,

Eric, cash the check.

I went back to manually check for updates. and the KB 935509 is not there
any more.

I will report this to Robear Dyer for the benefit of the community reading
this post.
