hi, can anyone help my brother, he will not part with his old pentium pc,
anyway the problem is he has just bought a new WesternDigital IDE harddrive,i
formated the drive and installed winME on the drive using my pc, it works fine
with my pc but the drive will not boot with the pentium150,i have tried every
jumper setting so i assume it is the 8 gig limit of the old motherboard, i
even tried to cheat by formating the drive as a 8gig drive but it did not work,
please help.

You need a BIOS upgrade from the motherboard manufacturer, if available.
Good luck!

or1) EZdrive from Ontzrack or a similar product from the manufacturer
of the HDD
2) a HDD-controllercard with its own bios

this should work better, than a bios-upgrade.

I had this problem once with a large drive on an old system and had to set
the hard drive predelay in the bios to a 3 or 4 seconds. Your bios may be
trying to initialize the drive before it finishes spinning up. HTH.

Yes, and read the instructions very good, because I screwed up a
motherboard once while flashing the bios.

WesternDigital has a free download called Data Lifeguard Tools made just for
this reason!
you can get it at their site here http://support.wdc.com/download/

And when you get the bios to operate the new drive (or whatever
the problem is) install disc wizard (seagate / ontrack) so that
the bios recognises the drive (mine is a P166 with 20 gb HDD)

hi,thanks for the advice, i went to W-D website and downloaded free lifeguard
software, i installed a app called ezy bios which tricks bios into thinking the
drive is a 8.4 gigabyte drive.
