Ok I think this was the group where we were talking about the MS security
update CD and I just wanted to post that it arrived today. If I remember
correctly we were all wondering if it would ever arrive at all. It says it
has the updates from Feb. 2004 back. I thought it was from last Oct. back so
this is a nice surprise.

I got mine today too! It was a couple of weeks later than they
originally said it would be, but I'm glad it's here now. I tried it on
my second computer already and was quite happy with how well automated
the process is. I wasn't too thrilled about not being given the option
to install Media Player 9 or not, but that's not a big issue with me and
this looks like the disc will be a great thing whenever I decide to
re-install Windows again on either of my computers. Being on a dial-up
connection, this is a God-send, now I only need to download a couple of
Recommended Updates each time a Windows re-install is in order, plus
whatever new critical updates get released from here on.

Got mine too. Since I frequently build (or re-build) PCs with sundry
MS OS, this will save me a lot of time updating to the latest OS
release levels.

Likewise, I cant believe they Purolater'd them.

The CD says Feb, but the info stated on the web was that the updates were
only up to Oct of last year. Can anyone confirm this?

ps.. the force feed of mediaplayer 9 is good enough reason for me not to
install/use this CD.

Why? What's wrong with MP9? But you can't just cancel the install for
that component and have it just install the security patches?

My mother got hers a couple of weeks ago and it was destroyed in the mail.

I got an e-mail that mine was in the mail a couple of weeks ago, but it hasn't
arrived yet.

There is a tech support number listed on the bottom of the inside flap. Maybe my
mom should call that up and see if they can't reissue another mailing. LOL.

There was also an anti-virus/firewall CD included. If we have Norton, and I'm
still trying to get Zone Alarm 4 installed on my mom's machine, should I bother
with the CD that comes in the mail next time?

My copy was in my mailbox when I last posted. It looks OK, and not totally
obliterated by the mail system.

Mine got delivered by courier. Explored it and put it away. Basic install
seems to be an all or nothing affair and we all know what that'll probably
do to a stable Windows. Appears to do anything else requires one to visit
the Update site anyway just to look up-find out what each "package" does (or
at least partly does as MS seems to always leave out the little gotcha's
they'd rather you not know about before hand).

Maybe next time I do a clean install I'll shove it in early but till then
....
