On Win98se MPC 6.4.7.8 will not render .ram streaming, (in my case anyway)
but MPC 6.4.7.5 does render the .ram streaming. (I'm using RA 1.21)

Yes - I'm having this problem too.

Thanks! Having had the same problem as Ted on XP, I uninstalled MPC
6.4.7.8 and RA 1.21 and reinstalled RA 1.21 which installs MPC 6.4.7.5
which works!

Yeah, that is what I did originally to get it working, RA 1.21 installs MPC
6.4.7.5 which does work. For those who have not upgraded DirectX on Windows
95/98/se, you will have to do so if you want to use MPC. Run DxDiag to see
what version of DirectX you are using, as I think you have to install at
least DirectX 8.1 for MPC to work. XP users would already have a much
later version of DirectX so they would not have to bother looking to see
which version they do have installed.

I find that under 98SE, it won't read .ogg files,
even though I have installed the codecs and the
MPlayer2.exe that came with 98SE does. It takes
me to a codec site and then cannot find any codec.

Guys, just downloaded MPC 6.4.8.0 and finally have it working with .ram
files.(using RA 1.21) I found the below hack on one of the news groups
over on GRC's news server, configured as Daze suggested in the below
copied post and it works! Check it out, yeah I'm stoked! Note you double
click on the "Direct Show" text off to the right of "REAL AUDIO FILE,
REAL MEDIA FILE, REAL SCRIPT FILE", not the button for "Real-Time
Streaming Protocol handler (for rtsp://... URLs)" to change the three to
"REAL MEDIA" Roger, Roger ? Test it out here--->

http://www.chicagopublicradio.org/programs/jazz/miles/miles_sunday.asp
to listen to some cool musaic.

<start copy from GRC>

Try opening "Options" in the View menu on your MPC. In formats, make
sure that the three Real Media entries are all checked. Then, if the
Real entries are listed for "Direct Show," double-click on Direct Show
to change each of them to "Real Media."

HTH guys,
Kruppt

Do you first install RA 1.21 and then MPC 6.4.8.0?

Other than what you posted above, is there anything you have to do to get
MPC 6.4.8.0. to recognize the codecs previously installed by RA 1.21?

HTH guys,

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I have been battling this for a long time now. Using the info above
worked great. I'm glad you specifically said to double click the "direct
show" option or I would have never found it.

RA 1.21 was already installed previously. I then moved MPC 6.4.8.0
(mplayerc.exe) and the MPLAYERC.ini files into the Media Player Classic
Folder that was created by the RA 1.21 installer. I renamed MPC 6.4.7.5
first before moving 6.4.8.0 to the MPC folder. Configured as I mentioned
earlier in the post and all was well in my case.
