Lost In Space/Woodchuck

I couldn't find a better place to ask my questions so here goes: I'm looking
at new 20" screens and have narrowed it to the following in order of which I
think is the best.
Samsung 215TW
Samsung 244T
Dell 2407WFP

Also saw a few viewsonic in same size but unsure how they rate?

comments please

I'm going to suggest considering something different: PC Connection,
Buy.com and E-Cost have all had the Hanspree (Hanns-G) HC-194D 19" LCD
monitor for $220 with a $100 rebate ($120 after rebate) in the past 60
days (not sure which if any of these, are still offing this, you would
have to check). This is an excellent LCD monitor, both analog VGA and
DVI digital, with speakers, good build quality and picture. But at $120
after rebate, it's a real steal. I don't know the price of your other
candidates, but you might want to look at this one, although it's 19"
rather than 20".

Interesting to Google: Samsung 215TW "native resolution," for
example, and see the number of typos and wildly incorrect specs
posted by various vendors!

I assume this is actually 1680x1050 (16:10) and is ~ 21"
diagonal? Which would be ~ perfect, when replacing a 17" 4:3
monitor, as the vertical size remains ~ the same. And the number
of vertical pixels would probably be very close to what the 17"
offered.

Of course, the Samsung 244T is a 24" screen. As is the Dell.
Both somewhat talled than a 17" 4:3 monitor.

How important is contrast ratio? Is there visually different between 800 &
1000 contrast monitors? I like the 215TW due to it's additional inputs over
the Samsung 225BW which only has DVI & analog inputs.

It's important but it's importance is over rated ... there is no
significant difference between 800:1 and 1,000:1. Once you get to about
400 or so, for computer use, it's unlikely that any further difference
really matters. Basically, this is a measurement of how much light is
coming from something that is supposed to be "pure black".

With that info I would think brightness should be considered over contrast.
I also pan to edit "home video" on the monitor... so I'm looking for bright
crisp LCD.
