I know it is but not every computer can get it
believe me I did 40 of them manually because it did not show up in WU
robin

I believe you, probably the servers are over loaded.

But is weird out of 40 = 0

Maybe tonight or tomorrow is your lucky day.

Take care Robin and have a brake until tomorrow

Good luck

I saw it apply "late" on about 4 of the 30 machines in an office I admin,
where I worked on most machines today (staff retreat--everybody went out,
and I got to sit at a machine with two wide-screen monitors and update all
the rest....)

But it did come in--sometimes on a separate run of MU after everything else.
I've been seeing lots of transient error messages from WU/MU over the course
of the day--I suspect the servers are busy. Certainly the number of bytes
in the total updates this time around may be a record.

FWIW, the new targets added to MRT this month are more of the same from last
month--more variants of fake antimalware scam programs.

Well, I have an admission to make. I tried to say "Hello" but .... don`t
think she was really interested. You Know? The continental breakfasts and
beach strolls were a figment of my imagination. She did keep asking about
this guy Engel though?? Do you know him?? <smile>

41 computer at 8:pm est- and I finally see it-sheeesh!
I ran it manually on the 40- I really did not want to go back into 40
machines and re run them.
thank you ms for not telling us on the day of updates that you left this one
out because it had a problem.

why can't they find who makes these rouge programs and prosecute them?
The antivirusxp2009 program actually asks for money. This is fraud besides
what it does to ones computer.
robin

I suspect it will come in via AU in coming days--it doesn't require a
reboot--so it may go completely unnoticed in the middle of the night.

There are parts of the world which can be reached via Internet, and via
banking channels, but whose laws don't address this issue.

Good! Where have you been? I`ve been breaking all the rules on here with
Engel. Its all my fault right? Guilty as charged !!

Stu

Sometimes life gets busy and I just float away for awhile. I don't see
anything broken lying around, so as far as I can see you haven't trashed the
place!

"rouge" programs - wearing makeup...? :)

Hi Bill, good to see you back,

Look what I found:

Copied Ñesponse from MowGreen [MVP] 12/10/2008 1:01 PM PST

The MSRT was pulled because of a False Positive and, puportedly, fixed and
reissued. Found this on a private anti-malware site with no attribution of
where it came from:
Note: On 19th November a signature for TrojanDropper:Win32/Renos.N started >detecting particular uninstall files.
This incorrect detection affects users of all Microsoft Antivirus solutions, including >MSRT (Malicious Software Removal Tool) December 2008 (version 2.5.2419.0).
On 9th December Microsoft released a new signature that addresses the issue.
Signature versions 1.49.299.0 and higher include this fix, as does the latest version of >MSRT December 2008 (version 2.5.2423.0).

Here's a thread discussing the issue:
http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=28749

So far I haven't been able to find any 'official' info from MS nor have
seen the MSRT offered to my systems via Windows nor Automatic Updates.
