OT: Karaoke software with XP Pro

Just *hoping* that someone might help.
I am wanting to have a karaoke evening with some friends. We would use a
PC and projector.
What software should I use to do this? Looking for software that allows
the singer to follow the songs as they are playing.
Preferably freeware as it is for a non-profit group.

I have searched on Google but so many things came up with .kar files
etc.
Chances are this is going to be a one-off fun night and so we wouldn't
want to fork out loads of pounds just for this. Did a search also on
Karaoke newsgroups but it just listed songs etc.
