OT: JAlbum - which of these looks best?

Dunno, waited 3-4 minutes on either page for it to dl and it's still at it.
Did you optimize your images first, before generating the albums?...oops it
finally failed to dl. Maybe you're working on it right now.

Yes, I believe you can adjust the colors when you generate the album

| BTW, anyone know if that dark blue camera data on the latter can be

Hi Terry, Eleanor here.
The first one is working much better for you than the 2nd, which is too wide
with 4 thumbnails across and all that blue stuff that you don't need. I'll
bet you can option that out ... at least I hope so.
With #1 I suggest you use #FFFFEE rather than #FFFFFF for the background
color to soften the page a bit. You can take off the stuff at the bottom of
each page as well.. I always have to work on each individual page a bit to
get rid of excess stuff.
I'm not crazy about thumbnails on both sides of the larger version. Again
.... great photos.
You can contact me through my website if you wish.
My best,
Eleanor

I agree with ET...the blue one is cleaner.

Many thanks both.

Yes, next stage - amending the basic result to my taste and
incorporating other stuff from my original index page, for each year -
should keep me preoccupied for a while!

I may also try making my own template with FP 2000 as you suggested
initially, to see what it involves. It might be fundamentally more
satisfying in a way, although JAlbum is so *fast*!

Good, I look forward to seeing the results. On a light background a drop
shadow might also be nice. I almost always do it. the trick is to set the
background color correctly. what image editing program are you suing??
Eleanor

jalbum will create drop shadows if that's what you meant.

I use IrfanView increasingly, although sometimes I have to fire up
PaintShop Pro 8. That can produce shadows I think, although I suppose
it means using layers, with which I'm not really yet very experienced.

I tried changing the ffffff background colour as you suggested. I used
Advanced > User Variables, and changed bgcolor. But no matter what I
enter, it still seems to remain the same very light blue. Is the skin
perhaps preventing it? I see there are various Styles for the skin, so
presumably that's the only way of changing the background? Black looks
rather good, BTW.

Yes, and nice ones too. And also other 'frames'. In fact, if I could
find out how to *combine* the JAlbum index page with my own original,
that would be ideal. IOW, how can I get the rest of my content, like
the full title (with my choice of fonts), the notes at the end, the
extra links to other walks, etc?

Is it a matter of digging into the JAlbum output, index.htm, and
editing it in FP 2000?

Glad to know you are using a version of Paint Shop Pro! For the background
color you might look into the CSS file and make the change there. Look at it
in the 'res' folder. Look at the photoindex.css file to see what's happening
also.

Yes, you can. I've done it, but it took too long. So my new jalbums I just
went with the blublu and the last one I'm still working on I used the brown
one - can't remember the name...one of the first ones on the sample page
thats available in several color combos.

Combination of JAlbum, the inc. pages, the styles sheets, AND editing the
output in FP is how I did it originally. You can really do a lot with JAlbum
depending on how much you want to mess with it.

After much fiddling with CSS and INC files etc I've made some
progress! Thanks to you and Rod for your help.

Using the BluePlusPlus Canvas style I've just tentatively published
one of the 3 years, to get some feedback before I proceed please:
http://www.terrypin.dial.pipex.com/Walks/TP04-JA-BPP-TP1/index.htm

One immediately obvious flaw is that I seem to have lost the ruled
line I thought I'd used, rule.gif - I'll go looking for that!

One other snag (this one down to JA/BBP I think?) is that I can't show
the caption ('Comment') under each slide, only various other elements
like filename, size, etc. I'd prefer the caption there rather than at
the top.

To get my 'footnotes' onto the index page I went into index.htm with
FP 2000 and edited it, but I'm very rusty so it's a bit rough.

Is there any consensus from experienced users on the respective merits
of using JA/skin and then customising, versus writing your own
template from scratch with FP? I suppose the next one will be easier,
but I must say I've spent *ages* on this!
