OT -ish fonts in Mozilla

After another terminal breakdown when compacting databases in OE6, I
decided to shift.

(I've decided this before, but I like the look and feel of OE and IE)

Anyhow, nuff's enough, so I tried Mozilla, and it looks good, but the font
in the email composer is so titchy I can't read it.

The toolbars are fine,

I run on 1280 x 1024 resolution.

I can't find any way to enlarge the font in the email application - surely
there is a way? I don't want to give up on just that, and I don't want to
change my monitor resolution.

Also, assuming that I can get this resolved, hoe about ditching the whole
MS internet suite? Ieradicator does not claim to be able to get rid of IE6;
should I try it, or carry on carrying the excess baggage.

BTW, I don't have any issues with IE6, and I could try just the email
wossname from the mozilla suite, but I sort of like to keep in the same
family.

Any help would be appreciated, as I feel OE must go; the I've saved all
it's data in mozilla, as last time I compacted databases the resulting
crash cost ALL my data, messages addresses etc.

Never again - this time I mean it!

Have you tried fooling with the settings in Edit > Preferences > Mail &
Newsgroups > Composition?

I unibstall OE and keep IE around for using Windows Update.

In case it helps your resolve, data destruction during compaction has
been a problem with OE since the 4.x days.

Sorry I can't help with your question about fonts in Mozilla;
hopefully others will help you get it sorted.

Yes, I can only find a reference to quoted display fonts - the only general
refernce to fonts I see is in "appearance" but this does not appear to
relate to the email section

On my 1.7, under Mail & Newsgroups > Composition (at the bottom) it says

Defaults for HTML Messages:
Font: (select)
Size: (select)
and you can change the color as well.

Never tried it though, as I send all messages in plain test.

Thanks for looking, Michael, but I refuse to send mail in html, and
there seem to be no settings for plain text.

I've downloaded Firefox and thunderbird and will try that combination.

I was getting a bit unhappy with mozilla anyway, the combined client
keeps opening windows, like start mozilla, go to email, another window,
forget mozillas already open and get another instance running, etc; and
as a W98SE user I'm very wary about resources.

Still be interesting to know where they keep the font sizes (in
thundrerbird it's right there in front of you)

Regards

Mike,

In the message composer, when you compose as plain text, the default
font is whatever one is selected under Edit | Preferences | Appearance |
Fonts | Monospace . Mine is set at "Courier New" and 13 pixels. I use
the same screen resolution as you, and it is very readable.

However, the message composer window also remembers the font size the
last time you composed something, too. In Mozilla, you can adjust the
font size to be larger or smaller than the selected base size by holding
down the Control key while you scroll up or down with your mouse.

So, probably all you need to do is open a message composer window, then
Ctrl-scroll up until the text is a size you like. Next time you compose
a message, the text size should be the same as what you selected the
previous time.

BTW, I think the Ctrl-scroll defaults to controlling text size. If not,
you can set it at Edit | Preferences | Advanced | Mouse Wheel.

Hope this helps.

Thanks very much, Andy, The manual must be about as clear as Xnews!

I did in fact change the size while messing around, but not enough, and
it was remembered, but I spent ages trying to repeat the trick, and
couldn't!

At the moment I'm trying the firefox/thunderbird duo, which seems nice,
but at least I can try mozilla again now.

(It's nice to see IE/OE like progs around, last time I had a fight with
outlook express I tried loads, but couldn't get on with any of them, say
what you like, I think Bill cracked the user interface - for me, anyway
- but this time I don't think I'll be going back),

BTW, why is it the helpful guys on umpteen ng's are called Andy; are you
clones?
