....anyone know anywhere that sells older used cpu's in the UK - where I
would be likely to find as below !
I've been searching ebay for months, looking for a Skt775 D965 or D955,
....they never seem to come up for auction. (There's always one or two
sellers in Hong Kong, ...for a ridiculous price.

regards, Richard

Thanks, ...a good idea, though I dunno if we have them around here.

I've been Googling like crazy to try and locate UK sellers of 2nd user PC
parts, inc. cpu's, ...not having much luck ...perhaps there aren't many.
I did spot a website a few weeks ago with a D965 cpu in stock, and the
moment I spotted that they want a price for it that would have built 2
Athlon 64 x2 6000 systems with quality parts complete - I did the usual
thing that one does the instant something daft is spotted on a web site -
closed it.

He's hoping some very expensive processors will be sold for peanuts.

The E6600 does as well, so there are probably other ways to get that
level of performance. (I.e. Buy dirt cheap Core2 and overclock it.)

Good luck. The Pentium-D Preslers are rare these days. Those in
the 3.4 GHz range and faster were expensive in the first place. And
many went into motherboards with the Intel 975 chipset. Although the
CPU's and motherboards were superseded very quickly, they were, IMO,
well worth the price.

Not quite Peanuts !! I don't mind paying a realistic price - thank you very
much ! ...for some improvement in a system that's already prefectly
adequate but, I would like to swap out the D 935 in my main PC for a D 965
but, I'm sure you would agree, it's daft to pay something like £113 or more,
for an older gen. cpu when that much money will build something much newer
and faster. e.g. I think I paid about £93 for the AM2 motherboard and
Athlon 64 x2 6000 cpu in my 2nd PC

I just wondered where all the D 965's and D 955's had gone. e.g. there was
a seller on ebay a few weeks ago with a limited no. of the D 965's, with a
"buy it now" price of £130, (if my memory serves me correctly). Such an
amount is unrealistic compared to newer generation cpu's / improvements in
performance etc.

When someone has a quantity of such processors, you have to wonder
whether they are counterfeit or not. I can understand finding one
while parting out a computer, and putting that up for sale. But
finding a quantity of them, seems unusual to say the least.

It would be like finding gold bricks buried in my back yard :-)

Whatever computer those D 965s were in, the computer itself
should still be perfectly usable, so it makes no sense to
be selling the processor itself for £130. Maybe they're
D 805's with new lids soldered to them ? There has to be
a trick.

oooh! I hadn't thought of that - counterfeit cpu's !
....though I should have been aware of it - ages ago I was hunting through
www.cpu-world SktA/462 list and noticed a reference to a part No. that was
suspected as counterfeit. I had sort of assumed that quantities of older
hardware which sometimes appear on ebay are old or bankrupt stock being sold
off.
