Hey All. OT, I know, but want to see if this is common. I bought an HP
DeskJet 5550 printer last May. About 2 months ago I started getting a msg
that the ink carts were low, and advised to change. I decided to see how
long they would last after that. Here it is, 2 months later, and still
absolutely no degradation in print quality. What do they do, warn you when
the cart is half empty? The system keeps telling me the black ink is very
low, but it still works fine. I use it daily to print text and graphics. Is
this a scam by the printer companies?
Thanks...

AFAIK, most printers calculate the data transfer, which colour inks would be
used and how much ink that should use, they don't really use a dipstick
inside the cartridge :-)
Also, if you remove & replace the same cartridge, some brands reset & think
it's a new cartridge - not recommended to do, as a nozzle will chew out
quick-smart if it's run dry.
