Hey all,
Lately I've been having pronlems with IE 5.5 in Win98SE. I only have a lousy
dial-up connection(can't get cable or DSL here). Anyway, the damn thing is
getting long pauses when I'm online. I't'll connect fine at 50,666 first couple
of sites, then it'll pause for a couple minutes when I go to another site. It'll
work fine for a couple minutes then pause again etc. I've tried deleting
cookies and other junk.No good. Also, outlook express won't connent to my
newsgroups anymore.Getting an "unknown error". Details below. Thanks for any
help.
Configuration:
Protocol: NNTP
Port: 0
Secure(SSL): 0
Code: 80004005

Try some of the suggestions here (especially modem and com port settings):

Yeah,I used ad-aware and Norton. Ad-aware found 60 something spyware cookies. I
deleted all of them. Still,it runs like crap. I don't have the same problem on
my W2K partition on the same system so it looks like I'll just tranfer
everything to W2K.

I found that my broadband connection was running slower than my old dial-up
and pausing for long periods. It turned out to be caused by Norton Internet
Security 2002. I have since seen on another group that, apparently, Norton
sent stuff down to the 2002 version via LiveUpdate that was intended for the
2004 version. May not apply to your problem, but then again....

Thanks, but I only use Norton Internet Security on my W2k setup. It's not
installed and doesn't run when using the W98SE partition.
