OT How long do you thin it will be before Windoze 7 ships with
computers?

I have to get another laptop and having to get Vista put me off. I
don't know if Win7 will be any better. I just didn't like the idea of
change.

I think they did lots of good stuff in XP.

Does it ship with computers before the separate version is out in
October?

I think you can make it look just like Windows XP, except maybe
for Windows Explorer (will see). Personally, I like the gradient
title bars that were introduced in Windows Millennium (red to
yellow for the active window and navy blue to skyblue for the
inactive Windows). They look cool IMO. The user should not really
notice a change in the operating system, except for better
operation of the computer. Just about the only Microsoft thing I
use other than the GUI is the file manager Windows Explorer.

The real question is whether the OS is more stable and faster.

Agreed. The big antitrust trial put Microsoft under some stress
while making Windows XP. I think that helped.

Good luck.

Look for deals like this. I expect others do this as well, so
Microsoft likely already planned for this. After all, they can't
have customers like yourself holding off on purchasing.

I think it will be Oct 22nd - when they plan to release the full version of
the OS. Maybe a week or two before for the larger distributors. Otherwise
you can get Vista now and a license to install W7 later. This info from the
MS W7 webite. Check it out.

For the same reason I haven't learned to ballroom dance.

HTH,

Thanks
This might be just what I am looking for.

Why not Linux?

Because I want to be able to run any application.

Linux software support is not there yet.

Believe me, I wish the vice grip of Bill Gates on my nuts would go
away, but it won't happen for a while.

It is criminal what you have to do to back up your data and settings
with Windoze.

HTH,
Paul

I didn't find a PC I wanted that was eligible for an upgrade to Win7

I was looking for one with a 17-19 inch good quality screen.
My eyes are getting bad.

There are so many choices when considering a laptop computer, it makes
my head hurt. :)
