I'm not sure that the recent spate of Gmail Invite posts has any relevance
to freeware, but in an attempt to stem the flow I offer the following URL,
where an abundance of invites are available:

http://isnoop.net/gmail/

The above URL was found in a recent Tourbus newsletter:

http://www.TOURBUS.com

I know, I know, Frank, but the ignorant plebs keep posting here
regardless of how many times they are told. :(

Hi frank,

You forget one very important thing! There is nowhere on that page
constantly quoted that a person can obtain a Gmail address. There is no
button to click, no email address to contact - just stats. That is why
people with invites will post them into newsgroups to help others. They are
available immediately rather than not being made available as on the
website. I have also taken a quote from the site which anyone is free to
check for accuracy -

Q: I tried and can't get any invites from this page. Can't you just send me
a Gmail invite?
A: Sorry, I cannot. You can get one by using the tool on this page though.
Try again another time.

So it might help if you read through the website first before posting, then
you might have a better understanding! If you want a Gmail address I would
be happy to send you one.

You put your existing email address in the box under the following line:
"If you would like to request an invite, simply submit your email in the
following form" you then click request invite.
What he is saying in this FAQ is that he can't personally email you an
invite. You can get one by just submitting your email address as described
above.
So it might help if you read through the website first before

May i suggest you do so yourself? ;-)

1. You obtain the request by clicking the button clearly marked "Request
Invite". How difficult is that?

2. <quote> Currently, we have 366,848 invites available to share. Thanks to
the generosity of folks like you, we've distributed 416,219 invites since
this page went up on Sep 13, 2004. </quote> Are all 416,219 invites bogus?

3. What has any of this to do with freeware?

Please read "1" "2" and "3" CAREFULLY before replying.

and it could easily be found right here in this very newsgroup, as i
have already posted it several times. :-)

what about the button that says "request invite" just to the right of
the text field where you enter a email address for them to send the
invite to? :-)

Or people can simply go to ;

http://www.emailaddresses.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=31

They should of course check here first .....

http://www.gmail-is-too-creepy.com/

Some interesting info/links on (lack of) privacy, advertising from
Google emails etc.

If people want a 1GB account without needing an invite they can go
to...

http://www.walla.com/

or maybe

http://s11.yousendit.com/

Other providers do NOT

(A) scan your emails like Google does.

(B) do not add advertising to your messages

(C) do not need an "invite".

(D) give people bigger mailboxes than Google.

Pretty much everybody scans e-mails for spam.
(B) do not add advertising to your messages

Gmail does not do this.
(C) do not need an "invite".

You realize that Gmail is still in a testing phase and hasn't been publicly
unveiled, right?
(D) give people bigger mailboxes than Google.

Fair enough. But there are many more things to consider than just mailbox
size.
