google inc will roll out POP3 (Post Office Protocol) support gradually
over the coming weeks to Gmail users, who will be able to use the
feature to download e-mail messages from Gmail servers to e-mail
applications on devices such as PCs and wireless devices.

however i did notice they don't say anything about offering smtp
(outbound) email from the client side. hrmmmm...

In no event will I be liable for any damages, including any lost
profits, lost savings, draughts, floods, or other incidental or
consequential damages arising out of the use or inability to use this
text. Some states do not allow the exclusion of liability for
incidental or consequential damages, but heck with them. Check local
listings. Void where prohibited. E Pluribus Unum. Be excellent to each
other. Party on, Dudes.

How can we do that?

That's why I don't have access:

The Gmail Team is excited to announce that, over the next several weeks,
we are introducing POP access to all of our users. To make sure the
feature is fully stable, we're giving users access to POP in phases.
Once POP access is available to you, a 'New Features!' link appears at
the top of your account, along with a 'Forwarding and POP' tab on your
'Settings' page.

Our team is continually working to improve Gmail, and we look forward to
offering you new features. Thank you for your patience.

Hi Conor,

Where does it say POP3?
it may not be available on your account yet as google is still rolling
the service out toooooo... what... millions of accounts? *wild guess*

the pop3 rollout will (supposedly) be completed in two weeks or so,
afaik.

Did you test POP3 and SMTP or just POP3 ?

I think a lot of us are wondering if SMTP is part of this feature.
The configuration makes it appear as if SMTP is available.

If SMTP works, please post again to let us all know.

SMTP works fine and all sended mails (with smtp.gmail.com) are stored in
webmail's "sent" folder !

Wow !

This looks like the answer for all of us that have no true SMTP ( JUNO
users like me is one group) with port 25 blocked, and those that have
been dependent on Hotmail in Outlook Express (service ends April 2005).

My Gmail accounts are now enabled and my Gmail POP and SMTP are by far
the fastest of my email accounts.
Great job Google !

Sure hope Google can make this work for free.

Gee Wiz miracles really do happen ! :-)

GOOGLE sure seems to be our FRIEND ! ! !
Anyone heard of the status of the new Gmail simple html project ?
