Due to having a minor problem today, I ran diagnostics on Maxtor 200 GB HD
(installed on Dell computer) and I got a Return Error 7.
This indicates that there are bad tracks or sectors on this HD.
Is there anyway to fix these errors with a software or should I buy a new
HD?
Please advise me. TIA. Roman

Dell, Return Code 7 and you are not returning it/swapping it out under
warranty?
Is it out of warranty?

If it is out of warranty...
- Backup everything you want *not to lose*.
- Download Maxtor's diagnostic Utility and verify Dell's results.
- You can TRY a 'Zero-Write' on the drive - sometimes that can fix minor
issues.
- Otherwise - get yourself a new drive.

I visited Seagate website.
I downloaded Maxblast 5 (utilities) and PowerMax 4.23 (Diagostic).
When I go home, I will try these utilities and Diagnostic software on the
D-drive.
My question to you is where to find 'Zero-Write' program?
TIA. Roman

The hard drive diagnostic tools can usually do this. There is no way to fix
a drive that is physically defective.
