OT:Epson cartridges

I know it's not an XP-related question, but the other ng I've tried has
brought zero response.

How critical are expiry dates on Epson ink cartridges?
What happens to the ink? Does it solidify or something?

I have a Photo 895 that takes T007 and T008 cartridges. Only
occasionally do eBay sellers quote the date on the box, and it's often
expired.

BTW, I've tried a couple of compatibles and they've been rubbish, so
I'll stick to the real thing.

I agree, there is nothing like real Epson ink cartridges.

Although I'm sure the ink is ok for a year past the expiration date if kept
in a cool place...I'd bite the bullet and order it direct from Epson.

I once tried to save money by purchasing ink on ebay and ended up with Epson
ink allright...but it was from another country
and rather old. The quality was not quite as good as new, US ink!

Have you seen the prices they charge over here?
I used to buy my cartridges from Costco, but we moved house and it's now
a 40-mile round trip, making the cost in terms of fuel and time
uneconomic.
I once tried to save money by purchasing ink on ebay and ended up with Epson
ink allright...but it was from another country
and rather old. The quality was not quite as good as new, US ink!

Very noble and patriotic I'm sure, but the cartridges I have are a
mixture of Japanese and right-pondian manufacture. That makes them
right-hand drive, which suits us better!

Well if you order them directly from Epson...
you save a lot of time and fuel. To me it's well worth it.

I see you are this side of the 'little pond' as I am, but
I don't know what compats you have tried, but my 9 year old Epson 640 gave
up the ghost - that had run well for 6 yrs on compats - found one that
worked OK after some trial and error.
I have a new DX4000 which is now running happily on compats - but not from
the same supplier as the old model.
I get far more printing done per cartridge - as good if not slightly better
with the colour which surprised me.
They are just half the price of originals. I don't know when you got this
printer, but as far as I know, no compatibles will work in some Epson
printers made since June 2007 - only reputable ink suppliers will tell you
this.
Some UK ink suppliers do good prices for originals - just a case of
searching.
