OT: eEBSVC.exe ..odd activity

Now and again I have a rummage around the web with Google and find that lots
of people have talked about this Epson file, and the general view seems to
be that it's to do with installed Epson software checking for networked
printers - or something like that. Seeing as mine is a "stand-alone"
computer - I always have internet activity for this file set to "Always
Block" in Norton Program control......I think !

I wondered if anybody in here knows anything about this damned file and why
it's always trying to accept connections from all over the place. A few
weeks ago I think I totally strangled it with firewall settings, (can't
remember exactly what I did), and both my printers disappeared, had to undo
whatever it was that I did to get them back

Earlier tonight, for some strange reason, eEBSVC.exe to accept an incoming
connection from several addresses including China !!!

Thanks for your reply Ron

I had spotted that page a while ago, tho' your posting it reminded me what I
did that made my printers disappear, backalong I stopped eEBSCV.exe in XP
Services, I either set it to manual or stopped it completely - both printers
disappeared - had to switch it back on. Norton firewall keeps telling me
that a remote computer somewhere is trying to get in touch with eEBSV.exe on
my machine Always a different remote IP address and it will often happen
several times during an hour or two online.

How do all these remote computers know that eEBSCV.exe is on my machine when
I never let it out on the web ? :) ..at least I don't think I do !

.....when one stops to consider the hundreds? of internet enabled files in
ones computer, and the hideous amount of time that it takes to run, and
manually configure entries for them all, "program control" in Norton for
example - it's all getting a bit ridiculous in terms of time sat in front of
the thing ? ...am pretty sure nothing's "got in" to my machine, do all
normal things, hosts is up to date, firewall a/v etc. Ad-aware and Spybot
sweeps now and again, XP all up to date. .....goodness me 01:17 a.m.

goodnight ! :)

regards, Richard
