I apologize for the Off-Topic posting, but I'm sure many here have used
Avant Browser, so I'm hoping someone will be able to check something in
their installation to verify the following. I've already posted a
question to the anti-virus and spyware newsgroups, and did receive one
helpful reply, but I'm just wondering if my case is isolated.
While scanning my system recently, NAV2003 identified a file,
syshook.dll, as PWS.Hooker.Trojan. The file was located in the Avant
Browser directory and appears to be be part of the Avant Browser
(v8.02.107) program installation. Can someone confirm if this file has
been included in their own installation?
I installed the program on my personal computer, after downloading it
by visiting the author's site, choosing the primary link, which, if I
remember correctly, sent me to CNET's download.com. The same thing
happened (inclusion of the file) when I visited the site from another
location (work) and downloaded installed Avant on another computer.
During the installation NAV did not react to the file, but it did so
when an on-demand scan was performed on each computer. Each computer
has a different version of NAV installed.
I deleted the file and Avant Browser has been working fine.
I appreciate any assistance in confirming this.
