Seems that the atmosphere between supporters of adware and other
products isn't at its best.

Ad-Aware by Lavasoft. I suggest a few acf regulars read the entire
post. I can't comment on the merits, but attitudes, apparent sniping,
and even the "take my marbles" response are all too similar to acf.

BTW, I just happened across Spy Cleaner, sold amongst other places at
www.adaware.info It purports to be freeware but as far as I can tell
without installing it is demo/trial/cripple/?.

Antoine, I post this just for clarity as my own spelling is only
slightly better than execrable as I have demonstrated here my
embarassment - you're ==> your, Speilberg (although I did check one
place first that also "mispelled" it), ....

You are welcome BillR. I may be wrong but afair, there was at the
beginning no freeware version of adaware v6.0. The development of
SpyBot has probably convinded adaware's editor to make a free
version.

Er no. Even though the pro and standard versions were released first, it
was always planned and promised to have a free version.

The whole nonsense at spywareinfo forum is based on some very old feuds.
Many of the experts helping out at spywareinfo forum were formerly (quite
a while back just after Gibson's stop supporting optout ) helpers at ad-
aware forum, many left because of the strong moderation policy there ,
where mentions of other antispyware products were deleted.

Since then, the 2 sides have being squabbling. Recently, the spywareinfo
forums were "invaded" by a new group of Lavasoft Xperts, many of whom got
on the nerves of the experts, because their solution to every problem was
run ad-aware and if it didn't work they would recommend that the user
update ad-aware. That got on the nerves of everyone because there are a
lot of malware out there that both spybot and ad-aware miss.

I think there is also some snobbery there, because most of the lavasoft
experts have little skill or no skill being unable to read HJT logs.

Anyway, it looks like it's back again....

www.adaware.info appears to be capitalizing on Ad-aware, but is not
related as far as I can tell.

BTW, upon rereading your original post, I realized that my assumption
about about spelling may have been incorrect. There certainly is
dissension aplenty in acf between various adware/.../pure-freeware
factions. Many participants might do well to reflect upon the
Ad-aware and SpyInfo message you cited.

I'm a long time AdAware user who just read about
SpywareBlaster on another news group:

http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

It looks like prevention (them) vs. cure (AdAware).
"SpywareBlaster doesn't scan and clean spyware - it prevents
it from ever being installed."
