I use google groups to access this newsgroup. Increasingly, I can not
see each OP's original post. I only see the first & subsequent answers
to that original post. This makes it impossible to answer the original
post, without hopping-on to someone elses' reply.

Is anyone else finding this?

TIA,
TC

I'm not sure how many people use Google to post. Most regulars use a
newsreader like Outlook Express, Agent, etc. There are a lot of questions
coming via the MS web-based forums. Since it's the original message you
can't see, perhaps they are just slow to be picked up by google. Do they
*ever* appear?

No. I seem often, to never see the original post!

Maybe it's a bug in the new google groups.

Yes, I agree.

But broken threads is only part of it: In general I find
myself unwilling to recommend Google Groups to new users
because the new system seems to be not useful enough:
How can I tell a person to search Google instead of posting
a new question, when using Google Groups (Beta) seems to
be more work for less return?

I agree that the new version has some annoying glitches. But why do you
feel that it is more work for someone to post a question? Once you're
in the relevant group, you just hit "start a new topic" (or whatever it
is), enter your logon details (if you haven't already done so), then
type away! And you get the benefit of being informed of new replies,
whenever you next log on.

TC

I used to believe that it was less work to do a
Google Search, and you got better answers. I no
longer believe that.

I now believe that it is less work to post a new
question, and you get better answers.

Yes, could be.

I never understand why people set that flag for normal posts.

But as you say, maybe some agents set it automatically.
