There are a few things that you could check:
1. Look in Task Manager (right-click near clock and choose; or type
"taskman" at Start\Run box) to see if your system resources are being used
extensively. Is your CPU being used heavily, or maybe the memory is being
consumed? If you were to look at the "processes" tab and sorted them by
each column, what applications stand out?
2. You could run a System Monitor (performance monitor) to identify where
the issue may lie.

3. Look in the application and system logs in the event viewer to see if
something else is the root cause. Perhaps, there is another issue that is
manifesting itself by poor performance.
4. Try clean-booting the system without everything running to identify
whether there is another application or driver(s) that is\are causing the
issues:
