Is it possible to install Win XP Home over Win XP Pro?

My mother is having this problem. She was operating on a really ancient OS and she wanted me to upgrade her to Win XP Pro (she had a legit retail disk) but neglected to tell me that it had already been installed on 2 previous computers so she can't register. They have given her 30 days to register so she went out and bought an OEM Win XP Home. Can she just install or does she have to delete the old OS (even though eventually it will cease to work) and perform a fresh install?

if your going to install an OS its always best to start from scratch, so format the drive and do a fresh install

Totally agree, dont waste time just format old drive and install as new, otherwise it will be problematic... speaking from experience!
