We reinstalled win xp after have problems with router. Now when
booting up we get a os choices menu screen, which has two options
which are both the same, win xp prof.

Can we by-pass this and just do a normal start-up ?

How did you reinstall XP? Here's the first thing to try. From Start | run,
type in msconfig, click Ok. On the startup tab click on Check all boot
paths. If one of them is not valid, XP will flag it and offer to remove it.
Let it. Then reboot. Does it now boot without the Windows XP boot loader
screen appearing?

Tried that, clicked on the check button. Report back is all O.K. in
the boot.ini window there are two strings, one for C drive and one for
D. We would like just to use the defaulted C drive and delete the
other one.

How to edit the Boot.ini:

This how your Default Boot.ini should look, you can delete the (D:\), but
where you reinstalled your XP installation, did you select D:\ or C:\, you
are the only one who know which line of these Boot is working for you and you
need to keep it.

That indicates there are two installs of XP. To get a clean install of
windows you needed to delete the partition and then install.

Will both of them boot into windows? If so then boot into the installation
you want, then rename the Windows folder for the other installation. Wait a
week. If all is well then delete it.

You should also edit the boot.ini file in the root of the drive that's set
as first in the BIOS boot order to remove the reference to the unwanted
installation. See this link, and if you need help post the contents of the
boot.ini file in a reply here.
