Hello List,

I'm using a 256 MB USB Lexar Jump Drive to shuttle docs to and from work.

Sometimes Win2K will not let me "Stop" the jump drive, claiming that an
application is using it. When that happens, something changes the names of
the files on the jump drive by changing one letter of the filename to the
next lower letter of the alphabet. For example, "report.doc" becomes
"rdport.doc" or "repnrt.doc". This can happen to as many as 100 files on the
jump drive.

I sent the jump drive back to Lexar for repair, just got it back and the
same thing is happening.

Am I missing something?

Did they repair it? Does this happen on both PC's? Have you tried using
the other USB port? I had something similar happen on a harddrive and it
turned out to be the drive controller gone bad.

Yes, they said they repaired it. The problem happens with both PCs and only
with that one Jump drive (I have a second one that never causes that
problem).

If this isn't a known problem, I'll just write it off to a bad jump drive
and use the other one.

Can you reformat it or wipe it. Since it acts the same on multiple PC's
and doesn't act the same as a identical unit the problem obviously lies
with the drive, and not the PC or operating system.
