Orphened AD Box with no backup

That should about do it! There might be a need to make sure that the DC is
removed from Active Directory Sites and Services MMC as well as possibly
some DNS entries.

NTDSUtil should be available to you without having to install the Support
Tools. However, since I am mentioning them, I might suggest that you
install the Support Tools from the WIN2000 Service Pack CD on all of your
WIN2000 Servers ( DCs, Memeber Servers, et al ). However, this does not
really have anything to do with your question - directly.

I have a 2nd AD domain controller that wasn't being backed up that had a
hard drive failure. IT can not be recovered. Nor do i wish to recover it. I
need to remove this orphened DC from active directory. There hasn't been any
luck with Technet. I found Knowledge base artical has been

else that came close.

That is the article that you need to use. Basically you use NTDSUTIL to
remove all references of the problem server from active directory. The
main thing you need to think abou is the FSMO roles. If the machine did
not have any then that is one less thing to think about.

Thank you for the reassurance on the issue. I wanted to make sure that I didn't miss any possible side winders before getting into the clean up. You all know how fun the trenches can be? :)
