orphan dll's

I have upgraded 95>98>2000>xp. I know I must have a large number of dll's
orphaned. Does anyone know of a safe utility that will seek out all of the
orphaned dll's? I would like one that will give me a list of them and let me
decide as to whether the dll file should be deleted.

Try the jv16 Power Tools (http://www.macecraft.com/).

No such animal. Dupe .dll finders/deleters will only get you into
trouble. Many apps want to see .dlls in their own folder, even tho they
may exist 3 other times on a pc. There is NO app that can properly ID a
..dll that is NO longer used.

Also, many apps require .dlls that may be a different version of the
same filename of a .dll that you see elseware on the pc. In other words,
same .dll filename, but different .dll version.

There are no such SAFE utilities. Though jv16 Power Tools, mentioned by
Thorsten Matzner, is a suitable utility -- but is not safe either.

You can use all these utilities at your own risk only; and if your
system works without problems -- I wouldn't touch it: maximum tens of
megabytes of HDD space are not worth the possible problems you can get
after such cleaning.

There are no safe utilities since there are delay-load dependent DLLs
(modules) also. You might be better off when leaving the DLLs alone.

I once tried the same thing and screwed up some applications. Better go the
other way, download CodeStuff Starter and find out which application uses
what dll.

Gentlemen: Thanks to all of you. I will leave the dll's as they are. I will
forget about any utility to do the job.
