Howdy.. I'm looking for help using ork.exe (office resource kit) and
hoping someone here can help.

I'd like to connect outlook to the message store on my SBS exchange
server from a PC not at the same location as the server.

The best method for me appears to be HTTP over RPC, which can be done
one of two ways..
1- I can disconnect and take my computer to the servers location, then
attach it to the network and add the account.
(which must be done from within the lan only) and then turn on the rpc
through http connection, and then take it back... or
2- I can apparently use ORK to build a custom install for outlook,
which presupposes my exchange server and connection at installation of
outlook.

since I'm more a 'neat software option' kinda guy, I'm trying to go
with #2

there are some very good instructions at
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HA011402731033.aspx
but starting with step one of "To configure RPC over HTTP"
'Specify Exchange Settings ' I am stuck. I do not have this option at
all in my custom installation wizard running from the downloaded
ORK.exe

are there different verisons of ork?
I find no option in the custom installation wizard that let me specify
an exchange server at all..

I have gone option by option through the entire tree under outlook, and
find nothing close to the items in steps 1-10 of the webpage referred
above.

Anyone have any idea how I can do this- Without breaking down my remote
computer and sending it to the server?

Thank you.

found it, it was about 8 wizard pages further along.

didn't do any good, I recieved the error message "this version of
microsoft office 2003 does not support office custom installation
wizard transforms"

which is really shallow.. I just bought office SBS 2003... today!

Even with Office versions not designed for enterprise deployment, you can still export the mail profile settings to a .prf file and distribute that. For more details, including a variety of .prf deployment methods, read the excellent white paper "Configuring Outlook Profiles by Using a PRF File" at http://office.microsoft.com/search/redir.aspx?assetid=HA011403051033&QueryID=pHm7c_60I&respos=3

Thank you very very much for that.

I was skimming around through the doc, going -oh no way- this is way to
deep.. then I considered the hassle of disconnecting, moving my cpu,
re-conecting, setting up, then doing it again back,--decided to
closely asses my ability to create a prf, and started a word by word
reading of that doc. Guess what was in there? can use the custom
installation wizard to export a premade prf...
and indeed, I re-ran the wizard, and it exports a prf with my settings.

It's working-

I haven't gotten it right yet.. and every time I want to try a
different combination of server name, I have to flip through the wizard
pages, make the changes, re-export from the wizard, and reimport into
outlook, I wish to go I could just play around with the settings from
within outlook itself, but I'll get there with this combo.

thank you.
