the weirdest thing happened to me. I wanted to organize some of my programs
in my program list.Went to start/programs and right clicked and nothing
happened but it just flashed. I have rebooted and nothing has changed. I
don't know what to do or even what happened. If this is not repaired I will
not have my programs in alphabetical order.
Thanks for your time and effort.

You need to enable the "Enable Dragging and Dropping" Option in your start menu properties. Follow these steps:

Start > Settings "Taskbar and Start Menu" > "Start Menu" > "Customize" > "Enable Dragging and Dropping."

For New Start Menu:
Start > Settings "Taskbar and Start Menu" > "Start Menu" > "Customize" > "Advanced" > "Enable Dragging and Dropping."

It would help greatly if you said 'right click' on start and select
properties.

I oviously have a different display on my system. If I click start I don't get
'settings' I right click start and select properties. You oviously are using
'classic start menu'. People not set to classic will have a great deal of
confusion in understanding you. Try it! No big deal but will confuse some
users.

Right click on any open space on the taskbar » select properties.

Works in "classic", "XP", "XP modified" or Windowblinds.

Whoa guys, please don't argue. It is not worth it. Yes, there are 2
different ways that the display can be on your screen. There is the Start
menu and the Classic Start Menu. I have mine set at Start Menu. When I got
the 1st reply I just changed my start menu to Classic menu and figured it
out. Then I switched it back to Start Menu again.

When unknown wrote .. his method would have saved me from changing it to the
Classic Start Menu. That is why I was saying you all were correct.

Thanks for your time. Much appreciated.
